Question… Have you gotten your Scape Martinez Collection together?
I was equally humbled and amazed to see Amazon.com compile what they call the “Scape Martinez Complete Selection“. It made me ponder a few things. Like when I was a teenager wild in the streets, wanting to hit up every bare wall I could think of. No one could have thought that I’d be the author of three books. No one. I’d just as soon been a statistic of some sort, a number on a list, a face just as soon forgotten.
I reflect on the desires of my heart, that I had back then. How incredibly narrow my world view was, yet at the same time how wild my imagination was. I was always inventing, inventing things to do, styles to draw, how to create my graffiti, where it should go, who should see it, things like that. I thought about transforming my neighborhood, but not transforming myself.
Over time somethings changed… not sure exactly where or when, but they do and did. Somewhere I learned that I have a voice, and that voice could be heard beyond Bascom Avenue… the eyes to see belonged to people far removed from Independence High School, and the ears to hear belonged to souls far removed from San Jose, California.

In this unprecedented book, master graffiti artist Scape Martinez shows how he does his thing, offering streetwise advice to help other “writers” create maximum-impact, legally sanctioned work. Step by step, he lays out the philosophies and realities of the genre.
